How might we design serve ware to connect emotionally to the user?

Hypothesis: Imbuing designs with the identities of: a unique hand-crafted object, unique forms, and a luxurious finishes, would increase the emotional value of the object.

Approach: Using material exploration and an iterative making as a starting point, I designed several unique platter lines that blurred the boundaries between the art object and the design object.

SUSHI - FRUIT - CHARCUTERIE - DISPLAY - ORGANIZE

Outcome: One surprising insight was that these products seemed to inspire the user to be more creative in their use of the product. When not in use, they would often display them in still life arrangements with other objects they treasured, on mantles, and other places of high esteem. This signaled to me that my approach to establish a deeper emotional connection between the user and a functional household product was tracking in the right direction.

Focus: Kintsugi Collection

I mixed traditional Japanese architecture and pottery practices and modern fabrication techniques to produce this line.
